Learn the art of bonsai in a hands-on workshop

Discover the art of bonsai with me, the owner of Shinajina in Tokyo’s Jiyugaoka neighborhood. I’ll share secrets and techniques around bonsai that will inspire you to continue practicing even after you leave. • Begin by choosing from seasonal plants like cherry blossoms, evergreens, or foliage bonsai, each reflecting nature’s beauty. You’ll also select your pot, and hear an introduction to the art of bonsai and its cultural significance. • Learn the importance of soil in bonsai cultivation and consider concepts of natural balance as you clean the plant, position it, and then plant it into the soil. • Enhance your bonsai with moss, stones, decorative sand, driftwood, or aged wood to bring your miniature landscape to life before considering a different base and taking photographs of the finished result. Because bonsai cannot be taken outside of Japan, we’ll give you a very special round bonsai pot and scissors that were crafted in the Tsubame-Sanjo. This will allow you to continue your bonsai journey even after you return home.

Welcome to the Yokohama Ramen Adventure! This experience is unique—you’ll visit a family-owned ramen noodle factory and then cook ramen and gyoza at my home using the noodles you create! 1. Meeting at Kikuna Station We’ll meet at Kikuna Station, just 30 minutes from Shibuya, at 4:00 PM. From there, we’ll take a short bus ride to a family-owned noodle factory, where my brother—a noodle maker with 27 years of experience—will show you how fresh ramen noodles are made. 2. Factory Visit and Noodle-Making At the factory, you’ll have the rare opportunity to choose your dough and noodle cutter to make your own noodles. It’s a hands-on experience that connects you with the traditional craft of ramen-making. 3. Cooking Together at My Home After the factory visit, we’ll head to my home to cook ramen, gyoza, a Japanese-style salad, and a matcha dessert. I’ll guide you through each step, sharing my family’s recipes. 4. Enjoying the Meal Once everything is ready, we’ll sit down to enjoy the meal we’ve prepared. We’ll toast with plum wine or soft drinks, savor our creations, and enjoy warm conversations. Why This Experience Is Unique Make your favorite noodles by choosing both dough and cutter—an experience most visitors never get. Visit a family-owned factory with a 70-year tradition of making fresh noodles. Step into a local home and cook together for a personal, cultural connection.
