It’s a bummer I only have 1000 characters, because I could go on for 1000 words about how meaningful our experience with Chikirsha in the tribal areas of Udaipur was. This experience is at its heart what an Airbnb Experience should be—placing people and sustainable travel practices at its heart, eschewing typical tourist traps and commercialization. It’s a genuine, raw experience, one that took Chikirsha 5 years to perfect given the relationship building necessary for her to get the tribal people comfortable with outsiders coming into their homes. This is a testament to her determination and passion for understanding the lives of these tribes and working to protect their way of life—and this pours out into every aspect of the experience from the moment you meet her. The whole thing was fascinating and probably one of the more unique travel experiences I have ever had (it helps the tribal food is really a treat too—especially the jaggery with ghee and corn chapati :))

Chikirsha is amazing.. she is very warm and welcoming and so much knowledge on the culture and history.

I learned so much about the country, history, and the life of the people who live in these villages. It can be daunting going to the rural areas, but I felt safe the entire time! Loved getting out of the city and doing something different.

The village itself was so authentic and untouched by the usual touristy feel, which made the experience even more special. The highlight, without a doubt, was being invited into a local home, stepping into their kitchen, and sharing a meal with them. It was a privilege to break bread together and be part of their daily life, even for a short while.
