Antoni Rząsa (1919-1980) was born in the village of Futoma near Rzeszów, the place of interweaving Eastern Orthodox and Catholic influences, the border between East and West. In 1952 Rząsa graduated from Państwowe Liceum Technik Plastycznych (the State High School of Art Techniques) in Zakopane, where he subsequently taught for many years. Having stayed true to his unique sensibility shaped by the culture of borderland, he went on to become one of the most original sculptors in Poland. In his work can be traced the influence of both Romanesque and early Renaissance, Polish folk art, and Eastern Orthodox icon writing. Drawing from the sources of tradition Rząsa created a completely modern, uniquely powerful form of art. In 1976 he built his authorial gallery in Zakopane that now features a majority of his works. Museum is open by appointment. Kontakt ul. Bogdańskiego 16 A 34-500 Zakopane tel. + 48 18 206 69 69 + 48 695 482 204
