Just 15 km south of the CBD, Bare Island was one of the set locations for Mission Impossible II and many people don’t know about it. The island is connected to the mainland by a long bridge, which I love taking photos underneath of for a unique perspective. A historic fort dominates the island, and the grassy space is an extremely popular backdrop for wedding photos. You’ll be in the suburb of La Perouse, very near Sydney Airport, so if you like plane-spotting, it’s the ultimate place to photograph aircraft coming in to land. The area’s also popular for scuba diving, so venture underwater for great aquatic shots of puffer fish, squid, and sea dragons.
With 270 degrees of coastal vision, the sound of the waves hitting the sandstone is a note in the serenity. Enjoy the sun and the sea. It is a romantic place for a couple to walk slowly. Take the bus N94 for about an hour from the city.
Historical fort also used as a site location in Mission Impossible 2
Historical military fort.Guided tours available.Great for scuba diving and snorkelling around it too.The land is traditional Aboriginal land.
Mission Impossible 2 was filmed here. A very pretty place, great for photos and La Perouse beach is right around the corner. Great for a swim and snorkel.
Visit Botany Bay where Captain Cook first landed and tour bare Island. Excellent beach too.
“Closest mini shopping mall, not quite the Westfield's but a few good stores within. Approx a 20minute (2km) walk. ”

“Located in the beachside suburb of Coogee, the Courtyard has been a dining haven to locals since 2011. Bring your family and furry friends to enjoy a wholesome breakfast or delicious lunch in our al fresco seating area. Pick up a book from our community library and sip on a locally roasted, organic, and fair trade coffee prepared by our friendly baristas. Pair your morning brew with a fresh pastry baked by our favourite local patisserie in Clovelly. Have a beer (or two) with your mates over a long lunch with dishes prepared from local produce and meat supplied by an award-winning butcher.”
