Synagogue (projected by Hungarian architect Baumhorn Lipót - which construction began in 1905 and was completed in 1909) with Jewish school and Jewish community is one of the biggest in this part of Europe. On the site of the contemporary synagogue, during the 1749- 1906, there were four synagogues. The first synagogue was not on the site of today’s, but at the Kralja Aleksandra Street, earlier than 1717.The whole complex is built in recession style. All three facades are of yellow clinker brick, with a difference that the façade of the synagogue is ornamented. In 1944, the synagogue was an assembly place for Jews who would later be deported to the camps of death. Currently, while the synagogue is not used for religious ceremonies, it is used for many cultural concerts and events.

SYNAGOGUE The new synagogue, the fifth to be erected at the same location since the 18th century, became a major project for the entire Jewish community of Novi Sad, on which construction began in 1905 and was completed in 1909. Projected by Hungarian architect Baumhorn Lipót, it was part of a bigger complex of buildings that included on both sides of the synagogue two edifices decorated in a similar pattern: One building served as the Jewish school and other as offices of the Jewish community. Hear a modern or classical music concert and enjoy the architecture at it's best.
