京都是歌舞伎的发祥地。1603年，出云大社的巫女阿国在四条河原一带表演歌舞伎，惊艳于世人。 歌舞伎原本是有女演员演出的，但在江户时代，因为有碍风化的原因被禁了。所以，现在歌舞伎中的女角都是男人扮的，就像中国的京剧一样。

The shopping area along Shijo Street is centered around the intersection of Shijo and Kawaramachi streets where you will find the Takashimaya and Marui department stores.
