The Russian Church is officially known as the Church of St Nicholas the Miracle-Maker. Fun fact: Inside the church you can leave notes with wishes next to the holy remains of St Nicholas, which are likely to be fulfilled, at least that is what is believed.

This beautiful church with glittering mosaic exterior and golden domes was completed in 1914 for Sofia’s Russian community, and named in honour of St Nikolai, the ‘miracle worker’. Students believe that the saint brings them luck, so they go there to pray prior to important exams. The cramped interior features icons painted between the 11th and 14th centuries.

St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, known as the Russian Church, is an Orthodox church in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, one of the emblematic architectural buildings of the city. The five small domes of the church are gilded and the bells are donated by the Russian emperor Nicholas II. The crypt of the temple is the grave of Archbishop Seraphim Sobolev, considered by many Orthodox Christians as a miracle worker. To date, many people write letters asking for help and leave them to his grave believing that he will help them.

Very beautiful Russian church in downtown Sofia. It is the church of St. Nicholas of Miracle-Maker, known as the Russian church in Sofia. It was built by Russian workers during the Tsar Nikolay period and by its instructions.
