Windsor Great Park is a Royal Park of 2020 hectares (5000 acres), including a deer park. The Park was, for many centuries, the private hunting ground of Windsor Castle and dates primarily from the mid-13th century. Most parts of the park are open to the public free of charge.
The park has been here since 13th century. It has a wealth of history. William I used to hunt here and Queen Victoria entertained on the shores of Virginia Water. Trees over 1,000 years old and the many deer are just 2 of the sights to enjoy.
Enjoy walking along the tree lined Long Walk from Windsor Castle to the Copper Horse, three miles away. There are miles and miles of private roadways in the Park you can walk along or even cycle. Then go to the Fox and Hounds pub for a rest and a refreshing drink!
