Hāpuna Beach State Park
Another amazing and soft white sand beach on this beautiful island! This is a great spot to go boogie boarding or body surfing or sun bathing...but be mindful...the waves can crash big here so if in doubt, don't go out. But enjoy the beach just the same!
A long stretch of beach within 25 minutes of home base. Plenty of parking. Life guards on duty. The waves here can be rough. And sun can be intense on island. There are some trees and shady spots. Also some covered sitting areas for with picnic tables.
Better than Waikiki, (except for the surf). Fine, white sandy beach with lots of room for everyone. Great for boogie boarding and swimming. Be sure to bring your umbrella as the sun intensifies between 12pm-3pm. Lifeguards are active here due to the strong under current on big wave days. …
White sand, about ½ mile from one side to the far end. Swim with care and know your skill, on rough water days, there can be a rip current that can be dangerous. One end is better for body boarding and the other in front of the hotel, a bit more calm. Areas to get out of sun and often folks…
“Live music in the evenings with great musicians. Great selection of shops and eateries.”
“If you are looking to learn how to surf, this is the place to do it. In the winter time there are small waves that are perfect for learning. There are plenty of surf lessons available and a surfboard rental across the street. For those that do not want to surf, there is excellent snorkeling there as well! It can get very crowded during peak times! ”
“Beautiful beach with several little coves and lots of shade. It does get crowded so it's better if you get their early.”
“From Art Gallery's to Dining, not to mention the convenience. It is just a 5 minute drive by car.”
“About an hour's drive away in the Paniolo town of Waimea is Big Island Brewhaus. Their craft beers are rarely available on the mainland and win many awards so enjoy! They also serve some fantastic grindz!”
