I hike this trail weekly. Best part of living where we are. You can step out my front door and start your hike up the mountain! Just head up Wolcott Avenue and once you reach the top, you will see a sign for the Mt. Beacon park and the start of the hiking trail. You don't have to go all the way to the fire tower; you can have a beautiful view once you reach the summit. But if you hike another 20 minutes or so, you have even a better view and sometimes can see Manhattan's skyline. So close, yet so far

Stunning 360-degree, 75-mile views from this restored tower built in 1931. It was used by the State to spot fires for 5 decades. A moderate 1-hour-plus hike.
- The trail up Mount Beacon is steep, but occasional switchbacks make the aerobic workout manageable. The hike actually begins on a staircase following the course of the Beacon Incline Railway, in the early 20th century the world's steepest funicular and one of the Hudson Valley's prime tourist attractions. The trail to Mount Beacon's summit, a shade over a mile and steadily uphill, follows a winding road that passes some lovely rock formations. Deer and other wildlife abound.
