An old Portuguese fort built at the beginning of the 18th century, and preserved by the local federal university, including its original canons. It is located on the Morro do Forte (Forte Hill), at the western end of Jurerê. Views are spectacular and it is worth a walk down to Praia do Forte on the other side of the hill, especially in the late afternoon, as the sunset will take your breath away. There are several bars on the beach to sit and admire the views in one of the most beautiful spots on the island.

É uma das três construídas para proteger a entrada norte da Ilha de Santa Catarina. Concluída em 1744, tombada como Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional. O acesso pode ser pela praia ou pela rua que liga a praia de Jurerê Internacional à Praia do Forte.

Localizado na praia do Forte, a poucos quilômetros do Centro de Florianópolis, a Fortaleza de São José da Ponta Grossa além de ser um local histórico muito bem preservado pela UFSC possui uma vista deslumbrante que vale a pena o passeio.
