Between 1942 and 1944 the Nazis used the Dossin barracks in Mechelen as a transit camp from wher 26 000 Jews and Romanies were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Today, the former barracks house a Memorial, a space for contemplation.

This is a Holocaust museum which is a little upsetting in its content. However, we should never forget this took place. The musuem is very well laid out with full audio guides in multiple languages. From the top of the building you get a full panoramic view of Mechelen on a good weather day.

Kazerne Dossin was voted as best Museum in Belgium in 2014. It is a former gathering place for jews from where they were transported to the camps. It is now transformed to a WWII museum.
