Metra station that goes to downtown Union Station for around $4

Metra train stop. 5 minute walk to the stop.

Take the Healy Metra to the city. Get off at Union Station. Be sure to check schedule, Metra is less regular than Blue line on weekends/nights. Costs more to buy ticket on train than at station.
