The oldest winery in the village. Learn of the old ways of the vinification process. Dates back to the 19th century. Great wine. Worth the visit. Don't forget to stroll through the picturesque village while you're there. It's absolutely magnificent!

Gavalas Winery is a traditional family winery located in Megalochori with a tradition in winemaking for more than 300 hundred years. In 2004 the winery formed so to be accessible for wine tours and tastings. Nowadays it is available almost all year round ( April – December ), so people can visit it and have an extended tour at the winery, seeing and learning about the history of winemaking in Santorini through the years, as the tour is being held both at the old part of the winery ( old cellars and patitiria ) and the modern as well. People that visit the winery in late August have the chance to take part in the traditional foot-stomping of the grapes for the wine Vinsanto.

The winery is situated in Megalohori and you are led to the 'canava' through a stone tunnel which is lit and set up in such a way that it unfolds the whole story of the winery.
