Island located in the middle of the Potomac River. Parking available on-site. No biking. Free.
My favorite place to do a little hike. It's a designated wilderness area, but with easy trails and great historical markers.
Easily accessible from DC, this is a great place for a short/easy hike to enjoy nature. Nice views as you cross the bridge and lots of shade as you hike around the island. Great activity for families!
“Built in 1915, this is a beautiful, columned memorial dedicated to Abraham Lincoln. It’s situated at the end of a large reflecting pool that overlooks the WWII Memorial and the Washington Monument.”
“Outstanding year-round, but spectacular when the cherry trees are blossoming. ”
“From mid-May to late August, locals walk down to the Mall on Fridays after work to enjoy live outdoor jazz in the sculpture garden. Arrive early (jazz is from 5:00-8:30pm), grab a spot on the ledge of the fountain so you can dip your feet in, and get a pitcher of sangria. Larger groups can bring blankets and set up picnics in the grass (BYO food is allowed but the guards will check bags for alcohol).”
“If you love animals you are up for a trip. Private car there is parking or Uber. ”
