Quite possibly the best sunset around. short hike to the peak with huge rock outcroppings. Parking is limited and the ride is a bit windy up the mountain.

This is my favorite hike! 🤩 Eagle Rock is part of the Chimney Rock State Park at streams and an old growth forest. 3,400 foot elevation. From the summit, look north toward Mt. Mitchell and Grandfather Mountain. On a clear day, you can look east all the way to downtown Charlotte. It's more than 2,000 feet in elevation above Lake Lure below. From the small parking area at the end of Shumont Road, you can hike to Eagle Rock easily as it is .4 mile from gravel parking area. If you want to go further, follow the Weed Patch Trail all the way to Tunnel Rock. It's a rare trail that opens backcountry adventures for hikers, mountain bikers and rock climbers. Weed Patch Trail traverses rugged mountain terrain through a remote wilderness area. Along the way, find rock outcrops with long range views, pristine mountain

GORGEOUS SPOT!! You must go online and register for a parking pass (free) to obtain a code to get into the parking spot - kind of different but worth the effort to see this spectacular spot. You start at the top of a mountain and hike down. Right next to Chimney Rock Park in beautiful Lake Lure (where part of "Dirty Dancing" was filmed!).
