The Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava designed the building, which gives the impression of a futuristic spaceship berthed at the harbor. And the expositions are really worth visiting.

“The architecture of the museum is very interesting. The museum comprises an old and a new building joined by the ceiling that has the form of the ocean waves. The acronym of the museum is MAR that means `sea` in Portuguese. The museum is worth visiting not only for its architecture, but also for its permanent collection.”
“This list would not be complete if the Sugar loaf were missing. The neighborhood is full of beautiful houses that are worth seeing too.”
“The architecture of building was inspired by the Opera de Paris (Palais Garnier). Its interior is all covered in marbles of different colors. Include in your trip an event here, either a ballet, or an opera, or a show, whatever that is available. I am sure you will not regret it.”
“You may go by car or take the train at Cosme Velho station, which I do recommend. It makes the trip even more special.”
