If you thought Yosemite Valley was the only part of the park with waterfalls – think again! There are many wonderful waterfalls beyond the Valley floor and Chilnualna Falls (pronounced chill-na-wall-na) is one of the most beautiful. It is also not so easy to get to and requires a strenuous hike that is about 8.2 miles (13 km) roundtrip with a 2,400 foot elevation gain. The Chilnualna Falls Trail is in the southern Wawona section of the park, and offers a multi-cascading waterfall, swimming holes, views of Wawona Dome, and beautiful trails. If you’ve done the big name hikes already or are just looking for something a little more peaceful, the Chilnualna Falls Trail is the move. Chilnualna Falls consists of a 50-foot (15-meter) fall (pictured above), followed by a series of pools and a 100-foot cascade, followed by a 240-foot (70-meter) capper of a cataract.

Just up and past the Historic Wawona Hotel. Requires park entry but a fantastic hike with great waterfalls.
