We visit as often as we can, since it's nearby. A great place to walk on the sand, feel the surf wash over your feet, hear the waves and relax.
Definitely not for swimming, though, unless you are a surfer. There is a strong riptide and the water is cold so be careful.

Walking, running or biking, Lake Merced is just beautiful. You can stroll just a small part or walk the approximately 4.5 miles around the entire lake. Easy parking in multiple locations. This is also home to Harding Park Golf Course.

There are points where the city completely disappears and all you have are the amazing water vistas. The hike can also start or end at Sutro Park, depending on which area you start, and is also highly recommended. Check out where the Sutro Baths (saltwater swimming pool) used to be until they were closed and nature took them back.

Don't miss a visit to the Presidio if you've never been. For anyone who likes nature, or military history, it's quite simply stunning. There are trails and beaches and discoveries galore. Recommend bringing layers, though, as the weather in SF can always change. There is also a public golf course.
