Sand beach is a gorgeous little beach (290 yds long) nestled between mountains and rocky shores on the east side of Mount Desert Island in Acadia National Park. Access is provided via Park Loop Road just south of the entrance fee station in a Bar Harbor, Maine. The beach is largely comprised of unique sand and shell fragments created by the pounding surf. Note: No pets are allowed on the beach from May 15th through September 15th.

The pond has clear water, with visibility normally 44 feet(13.4m), and occasionally up to 61 feet(18.6m), the deepest recordings in Maine.

Hike Birdsacres 3 miles of interconnected nature trails. Discover simple serenity as you explore the forest streams and fern-lined slopes of the 200 acre Sanctuary. Birdsacre Preserve’s vital wildlife habitat, is home numerous species of native Maine flora and fauna, and serves as a stop over for migrating birds in spring and fall. Trails are open year round from dawn to dusk. Entrance is free.

Built by her sea faring father, the homestead is now a museum that offers a view to an earlier time as well as houses Cordelia’s glass plate photography. The Homestead is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday, 11am- 3pm.

The trail system explores various points along Peter’s Brook which include a beautiful waterfall and traverses historic granite quarries as well. Hear the enchanting sounds of rushing water as you walk through the forest. Trails will lead you through rock scrambles, prairies, over a variety of bridges with many elevation changes. Penny’s Preserve offers quite a bit in a relatively short time. The trail is moderate difficulty as it has many trip hazards such as tree roots and at times crosses a natural rock bridge.
