The British Museum is a fascinating but also challenging place to visit.. the sheer number of artefacts and stories to discover can be quite daunting. This tour will guide curious visitors along a fun and often surprising narrative to discover the beauty of ancient civilisations and to come up close to staggering works of art. There are hidden mythologies, art, mysticism, and history galore. There are also current debates in regards to some artefacts on display. Some of the stories involve violent colonial exchanges, some involve looting, others involve questionable practices of ownership. I try to explain their arrival at the museum and update on their complicated status. Knowing about these stories generates constructive discussion of the issues involved, and I try to cover all points of view and invite my guests to share theirs. This is walk to discuss about all this together on a two hour tour. Some of the subjects we’ll cover will be: Ancient Greek temples and gods Deities and warrior kings from Mesopotamia Roman artwork and legacy Weapons from Australia Anglo-Saxon and Viking treasures Mesoamerican rituals Royal treasures from the Kingdom of Benin Statues and temples from India Artefacts from China Statues and mummies from Egypt …and many more fascinating bits of history.

Bible Study Tour in the British Museum

Join me in the British Museum for a Bible study tour in which the Bible comes alive as we connect museum artifacts to Bible verses. We’ll wind our way through the various galleries and see the world of Egypt as Joseph and Moses experienced it, Assyria as Jonah encountered it, Babylon as Daniel saw it and Persia as Esther and Nehemiah lived it. We’ll explore the Roman Empire in which Jesus lived and the Greek culture that the Apostle Paul preached against. Due to the museum layout, we'll first walk through the Assyrian, Egyptian and Greek galleries on the ground floor. Each artifact we examine dates from the time period of a significant Biblical character. We take a break and then go upstairs to see the Roman, Greek, Persian, Babylonian and Mesopotamian galleries as time allows and your preference dictates. Not only will you come face to face with ancient artifacts that are thousands of years old but you’ll understand your Bible like never before. You’ll have a much better grasp of the history of ancient Israel as well as the cultural forces that affected the birth and growth of Christianity. Photography is allowed so make sure you have plenty of phone memory. Whether you've just started reading the Bible or have more formal training, you’ll come away with an extra dimension to your faith and your knowledge of the Bible. Hebrew Bible tours are available.

From huge murals and intricate stencils to finely crafted bronze sculptures and miniature masterpieces painted on discarded gum, you'll hear the stories behind dozens of works. Our in depth local knowledge of the East End allows our guides to give an unprecedented insight into the current challenges our community faces as we move into the future, as well as all of the exciting things that people are doing to keep this amazing part of the capital unique. Other things to note We run our tours in all weathers unless it is truly extreme (think snow storm!), and advise that you dress for the weather and bring an umbrella if needed. Please note that children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult during the whole activity.

Walking through the ancient streets of London, you'll learn what lies beneath your feet, from 14th century Black Death victims to a long lost Roman Ampitheatre. Standing by some of the most foreboding locations in the city, I'll tell you about the gruesome executions which took place here, and the partying and revelry which accompanied them! You'll be taken within the shell of a church destroyed in the Blitz, and be led into the park which displays one of the most touching memorials to self sacrifice you could possibly imagine. The walk lasts 1.5 hours and will leave a lasting impression of a different side to London's deep and extraordinary history. Other things to note Your guide will be easily identifiable with a flag and friendly smile. There are no toilet or refreshment breaks during the tour, so please be prepared.
