Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park
When you visit the Big Island a must do is the visit Volcanoes National Park! Visit the calderas! Walk through the Lava Tube. My favorite!! is to drive the Chain of Craters Road to the ocean! It is surreal! When you go please consider having lunch at the Volcano Garden Arts Cafe. My husband and I…
Go early! There is so much to see and do. Hike the crater rim, check out the visitor’s center, visit the lava tubes, and take a lot of pictures!!!
It is a drive for sure but well worth it! I recommend leaving in the early morning around 8 and traveling south to see Green Sands Beach, Black Sands Beach and South Point before arriving at the park around 2. See the crater, hike around and then go back through Hilo to arrive around dinner. Drive…
Great national park that covers lava flows to the ocean, and also spans the volcano crater. There are cool lava tubes to see, as well as some great hiking. If the volcano is erupting during your stay... Bonus!!
There is no coming to Volcano without visiting the park. Volcanoes National Park welcomes millions of visitors each year and is the only park where there is lava! Great for hiking and site seeing, the park is not to miss.
Unique destination to spot live lava flows, lava tubes & glowing craters is popular with tourists.
“When driving around the north side of the island on the way to Hilo from Kona, you’ll find the glorious ‘Akaka Falls. This waterfall is a huge payoff for just a short walk down a trail from the parking lot, so don’t miss out on this one. ‘Akaka Falls is a whopping 442 feet tall! The full hike around the loop is 0.4 miles, so it’s appropriate for most skill levels, though some of it is stairs and uphill. On the hike, you’ll also see the 100 foot tall Kahuna Falls and lots of lush rainforest.”
“Get some fresh produce and local island souvenirs from the Farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays!”
“One of Hilo's many easily accessible waterfall views. Please stay on marked trails and adhere to any closures.”
“Amazing local fish and the best prime rib on the island (Fri-Sun)! Live music. Full Bar.”
