It’s a short stroll to the Tokata lighthouse, with sensational views of the big blue beyond. If you look down onto the rocks below the lighthouse, you'll see a colony of fur seals frolicking in the surf, make sure you bring your binoculars. It is also home to some of the world’s rarest penguins and one of the only places you might see seals, sea lions and elephant seals in the same area. There are also, sooty shearwaters, spoonbills and a breeding colony of gannets. It's an easy walk to Roaring Bay, where you can hide and wait for yellow-eyed penguins with their distinctive lashes. Early morning or sunset are the best times for viewing.

This is an enjoyable walk, and if you're lucky you may spot yellow-eyed penguins.

Beautiful Sunrise to see from here. Check the sunrise time on the app: " Photo - Time." Don't forget your tripod if you have one. Park your car in the car park and walk all the way up to have the best views. Also, seals are playing on the rocks. You can hear their calls echoing between the rocks at night, photographing the lighthouse lights.
