A modern take on an authentic ramen bar, but the real secret is the upstairs late-night Isakaya and their Whiskey Wednesdays.
A two-level establishment that features a full restaurant on the ground floor specializing in ramen. Go upstairs for the izakaya - a beautiful bar where you can grab a drink, ramen, and an assortment of small plates and snacks. Evocative and cozy and not at all stuffy. Recommended: Popcorn, Boiled…
Warm your bones over steaming bowls of ramen in a sleek Japanese dining room. Visit the upstairs izekaya for sake or cocktails. A winter favorite.
“If you want to treat yourself, go here. An out-of-this-world tapas place, you can have a whole range of experiences from a quick snack and drink to a full-on dinner. Everything is delicious, the space is romantic and transporting, and the servers are friendly and willing to guide you on your tapas journey. They also have an incredible selection of sherry. Recommended: Warm Olives, Fresh Cheese with Pepper Jelly, Artichoke Salad, Patatas Bravas, Pan con Tomate. I could list the entire menu!”
“There are three locations of this creative coffee shop and roastery in Durham, but the closest is straight down Geer St. Try one of their creative drinks, including a wide selection of hot chocolates. This is a lovely place to sit and take in the Durham scene. After your coffee, you can stroll around the neighborhood and visit Fullsteam Brewery, browse local goods at The Mothership, or walk to the Durham Farmers’ Market. Pro-Tip: arrive early on Saturday to beat the line. Recommended: The Dr. Durham Latte, or check out the Lakewood location for made-to-order churros!”
“Durham is full of pizza joints but this one's top notch, seasonal, and wood fired.”
“There's way too much to love about this place. We consider this one of our neighborhood bars and frequent it often. This is also home to the famous handmade Alley Twenty Six Tonic that you'll find making an appearance in many other bars and restaurants throughout the city. Must-trys: 1) outdoor seating in the famous "alley", 2) Alley Burger, 3) Bang Bang Cauliflower, 4) Muddled Old Fashioned.* *You can also order all sorts of provisions and things from their online market.”
“Perfect place to sit outside in the spring and summer months and have a cold beverage. Definitely pay the couple of bucks for the snack plate with 3 of your choosing: swedish fish, goldfish, pretzels, wasabi peas. Some of the best beer in town!”
