“Towering over Golborne Road, the famous Trellick Tower has become a much talked about landmark, loved and loathed in equal measure but protected from any wrecking ball by its Grade II status. A prime example of the brutalist architecture favoured in the sixties, Trellick Tower has experienced all the social problems that have come to be associated with high rise concrete blocks. But despite all that it still stands tall today. The design is down to Erno Goldfinger - if he sounds like some villain out of a Bond movie, that's because he is; author Ian Flemming named one of his characters after the architect. Not suprisingly, Goldfinger was none too happy. Regardless of what Flemming thought of”
“It’s good to see Notting Hill’s bohemian set alive and well. Having been lured for some time towards trendier stretches – the Peckhams and Hackneys – they have at last reason to regroup at Golborne Road hotspot Laylow, where patrons fuel the budding careers of resident musicians, and trainer-clad movers and shakers tuck into posh burgers and innovative drinks. Bella Freud’s glossy, animated aesthetic paints this former pub – from the staff’s jumpers to the suede booths and pink fringed lamps with black felt lining to neatly match the dark lacquered tables.”
“Best Fish and Chips in town as far as I am concerned. You can take away or eat in. Literally on the doorstep.”
“Another of my absolutely favourite antique stores in the world. Every time I go there I come out with a thinner wallet. ”
