“The Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden is one of the oldest in the world with its almost 150 years of history. The first idea of the foundation dates back to 1820-30s but the 1848-49 Revolution and War of Independence and the era of Opression did not favour the idea of founding a zoo in Hungary. Finally, the initiation of a group of patriots took form in 1866 and the first Hungarian Zoo opened its gates to the sound of the midday bell on August 9th. The Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2016.”
“The Széchenyi Baths complex is the largest “medicinal” bath centre in Europe. The waters are rich in sulphates, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate and fluoride, which are believed to help patients with degenerative joint illnesses and other medical issues. For those who just want to enjoy the relaxing powers of the thermal pools, there are a variety of different thermal pools on site, as well as saunas and steam rooms. Massages and beauty treatments are also available at an additional fee. The two outdoor pools are fantastic places to visit on a cold, dark night, as the steam rising from the hot water makes the whole place seem wonderfully mysterious.”
“Vajdahunyad Castle is one of the romantic castles in Budapest, Hungary, located in the City Park by the boating lake / skating rink. The castle, despite all appearances, was built in 1896, and is in fact a fantasy pastiche showcasing the architectural evolution through centuries and styles in Hungary. The castle is the home of several festivals, concerts and the exhibitions of the Hungarian Agricultural Museum.”
“Perfect place to properly taste Hungarian cuisine (Fish soup, goulash, paprika chicken, meat dishes, etc..) with generous portions and reasonable prices. It's close to Heroes' square. You should make a reservation. ”
“Following a long renovation, the building reopened as a 110-room luxury hotel in 2019, as part of the Hyatt „The Unbound Collection by Hyatt” brand. Covered in Zsolnay tiles, the building shows traits of Arabic, Moorish and Gothic architecture. The glass-domed passage, once lined with shops, is now the hotel’s reception area and a café, but you can check it out even if you aren’t staying at the hotel.”
