Get some fresh produce and local island souvenirs from the Farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays!
Check out the market on Wednesdays or Saturdays, when they have the most vendors. Most likely you will find some fresh island fruit there cheaper than you would find at a grocery store.

“Pacific Tsunami Museum provides history on the two major tsunamis in 1946 and 1960, which devastated Hilo and other areas along the east coast of the Big Island. The museum also has a mission to educate the public about more recent tsunamis, including the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the 2018 tsunami in Indonesia. Call before you visit, they have been closed during COVID, BUT their web cam for Hilo Bay is still active. ”

“When driving around the north side of the island on the way to Hilo from Kona, you’ll find the glorious ‘Akaka Falls. This waterfall is a huge payoff for just a short walk down a trail from the parking lot, so don’t miss out on this one. ‘Akaka Falls is a whopping 442 feet tall! The full hike around the loop is 0.4 miles, so it’s appropriate for most skill levels, though some of it is stairs and uphill. On the hike, you’ll also see the 100 foot tall Kahuna Falls and lots of lush rainforest.”
