Escadas do Barredo
one of the primitive ways to get to the city in the XIII century, and an emergency getaway to escape an attack from the north. For me, it's a quite special way to arrive to the riverside. Remember that the way down it's always easier.
The only route that united the region of the Cathedral with the Ribeira of the Douro river about centuries ago.
Go dow (or up) the stairs that lead to an arch called of truths and sometimes of lies.
“Port wine institute. Lots of information and history about port wine and nice selection of wine in the store.”
“If you love to go up or down using stairs this is the perfect neighbourhood to reach Ribeira. ”
“On the way towards Ribeira do Porto, the Infante D. Henrique Square offers several points of interest. The square is in the historic center. The statue of the Infante Henrique (Prince Henry the Navigator) is by Tomás Costa and was erected in 1894. It consists of the statue of the Prince standing next to a globe. There are two sculptural groups at the base of the monument. One represents a figure of Victory leading two steeds and two Tritons, to commemorate the triumph of Portuguese navigations. The other is a female figure, symbolizing the Faith of the Discoveries. At the base, notice the bas-reliefs depicting the capture of Ceuta and showing the Infante in the Sagres Promontory.”
“This club has an advantage with is having two different music rooms, so you can always choose one if you don´t like the other, and also it is one of the cheapest disco or pub in Porto, usually its 2€ ”
