On the initiative of Paris City Hall, the theatre Théâtre des Abbesses was inaugurated on 18 Novembre 1996, the second theatre of the Théâtre de la Ville, a resolutely contemporary italian style theatre constructed by a Belgian architect, Charles Vandenhove. About 95 shows are programmed each season by Gérard Violette, director of the Théâtre de la Ville, in these two theatre, which boosts a rise of the contemporary national and international creativity. Drama, dance, music, and world music make this theatre an gateway to the world from the heart of the Abbesses.
