On the weekends the space is transformed into a sunset drinks venue. During the week it’s a restaurant. Plants are everywhere & you would never say you are in the city
Awesome eco-friendly bar, with fantastic views and great music. It has an entry fee of about R50 (appr. $4) but worth every cent. Opens Saturdays and Sundays.
A rooftop eco-cafe, serving a range of salads, mezze platters and other light fare. The Living Room is the ideal spot to grab lunch or perch out for an afternoon. With some of the best views of Jozi’s skyline you’ll probably want to linger over a drink here until the sun sets over the city.
“Lovely selection of vodka. Great spot to unwind with friends after dinner. Locals love it.”
“You haven't been to Maboneng if you haven't tried their chilli poppers! Great value and great food with a very local atmosphere. ”
“Curiocity Backpackers organises a range of tours around Joburg. If you are the cultural/ touristy type, visit their website and book your tours even before you get onto the plane!”
“The Museum of African Design (popularly known as MOAD) opened in a cavernous former-industrial building in the Maboneng Precinct in downtown Johannesburg in late 2013. The museum does not own a permanent collection, but hosts a new exhibition every four months, showcasing disciplines as varied as African fashion and furniture to architecture, landscaping and public art. Hours: Tuesday - Friday, 10:00 to 17:00, Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 to 18:00.”
“Amatuli is perfect for the African art collector. Sculpture, statues, furnishings and beadwork – work sourced from all over Africa. It’s a collector’s dream and the place where you will find those astonishing Tonga stools, Yoruba chairs, Kuba cloths, Makenge baskets or Dogon shields. They also have a range of wallpaper and fabric that is uniquely African and divine.”
