The Cathedral of Valencia is a must-see when visiting the Old Town of Valencia. Shaped like a cross, architecturally speaking it is a truly fascinating building. With 3 distinct entrances, each possessing their own architectural style, there is plenty to see from just the outside alone. Inside, the…

Historical place. You can’t come to Valencia and not visit the Cathedral+Basilica. Every Thursdays you can see the historical “tribunal de les aigües”, they are judges deciding about water.

“Calling all food-lovers! No trip to Valencia is complete without visiting the Mercado Central - Valencia's Central Market. This is the largest food market in all of Europe and is sure to have your mouth watering with the large range of products available. Explore everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, to hundred of olives, baked goods, jamón, cheese and rice! Don't forget to appreciate the building itself - as one of the most emblematic examples of Valencia's modernist movement, this is a true architectural feat. Look up at the ceiling to see intricate patterns, picturesque domes and stained glass features. Top Tip: Look out for Central Bar, an authentic "Barra" nestled in the heart of the market. This is the informal tapas bar of Valencian Michelin-star chef Ricard Camarena. It is the perfect place to grab a small bite, try some high-quality traditional tapas, or have a glass of wine in an atmospheric location. ”

“This iconic complex put Valencia on the map as a tourist destination. The 7 buildings were designed by Valencian-born architect, Santiago Calatrava, and include an IMAX cinema, science museum and opera house. Like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, the architecture is like nothing you've ever seen.”

“Valencia, once one of the key players in the world's silk economy, still has a rich heritage of silk. For example, during the Fallas festival held every March, you will see people dressed in beautiful silk outfits. The Lonja was one of the most important buildings of the 15th Century acting as the centre of trade for silk. What you will find is palatial halls and majestic columns. Top Tip: The courtyard at the back of the Lonja is a stunning spot, particularly when all of the orange trees are in full bloom. ”

“Plaza de Toros de Valencia is a bullring in València. It was built between 1850 and 1859 in the neoclassical style, inspired by civil Roman architecture such as the Colosseum in Rome or the Arena of Nîmes. It was built by the Valencian architect Sebastián Monleón Estellés.”

“Valencia was once surrounded by an ancient wall (the Christian wall) made up of 12 entry gates. Although the wall was pulled down in the late 1800s, the Torres de Serranos (the main entrance) remains due to its historical importance. At one time, this was the main entry way for the royal road that connecting Valencia to other key cities in Spain. Top Tip: This structure has served many crucial purposes over the years including acting as a prison for nobility and storing the artwork of the Prado during the Civil War! ”
