Great for surfing and with good cafes, Porthmeor is a great beach for older kids and adults, on days with big waves it can be too big for small children though. The best place to watch the sunset on a nice evening too

Amazing beach for surfing. The surf school is located here too! Not far from Mulberry Loft (5 minutes walk!).

This is the premier surfing beach in the area. Lifeguards throughout the season, and surf school too.

Great tapas-style menu, ideal for watching the sunset over Porthmeor Beach.

The surf beach in St Ives, popular in the summer as it has lifeguards and it is a long deep beach with lots of space, rock pools at either end.

Lodging
“Thought to get its name from Guinevere, wife of the legendary Cornish King Arthur, the beach is located at the base of steep granite cliffs and accessed by a steep path from above. This means that the beach is never too crowded. There are a few hundred steps to take to get down and up again. Providing some of the best surfing conditions in Cornwall, Gwynver attracts experienced locals with its ever present large waves. Life guards provide cover during the summer months and their advice should also be sought before going in the water. Located in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the beach itself is sandy and around 150 metres long, at low tide it joining up with its neighbouring beach at Sennen. The right hand side of the beach is dominated by the rocky headland of Aire Point, through which passes the South West Coast Path heading towards Cape Cornwall and providing spectacular views from the cliffs, and on fine days the Isles of Scilly. Lifeguard cover from the 19th of May until the 30th of September (2018). Parking: Car park above the beach ”

“Great spot. We recommend walking in, reserving a table and grabbing a drink at the Balcony whilst you wait!”

“A must visit when you are in St Ives. Inventive tapas style dishes and also breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sits right on Porthmeor Beach so you can watch the surfers hit the waves while you sip a cocktail. Reservations are very hard to get in the summer, but they do keep back a section for walk ins. ”
