FREE public parking. Restrooms at trailhead. Outdoor showers at the beach. Be prepared for a bit of a trek. TAKE WATER. Look at my photos along with the instructions below or you will be wandering around on foot for hours. GETTING HERE: North on Highway 19 from Waikoloa Rd, Left at Mauna Lani Dr., Keep straight at the traffic circle, Left on Pauoa Road, Right into the parking lot across from Mauna Lani Sports & Fitness Club. Follow the paved trail and when it ends you will need to hop over the concrete toward the fishpond where it picks back up and go around the pond to the RIGHT. When you are at the next intersection, go RIGHT again. When you see the historical hut go LEFT across the green gas along the coastline until you get to the sidewalk. Follow the sidewalk and then the coastline until you reach the cove.

An oasis within an oasis, Kalahuipua‘a Fishponds of Mauna Lani Resort. Predating even the earliest Western contact, the loko (ponds), I‘a (fish) are a tangible reminder of the days when the land and sea supported the ali‘i (royalty) and fishermen (lawai‘a) who were the original inhabitants of the land that is now Mauna Lani. Like a stroll into a living museum.
