The four refuges within the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge Complex are part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, which is administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) under the U.S. Department of the Interior. Today the Refuge System encompasses 551 National Wildlife Refuges and thousands of small wetland and other special management areas totally over 150 million acres. The Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge has been around for about 50 years, and is known as a winter habitat for Canadian geese. It’s also home to lots of other wildlife, with 5,300 acres giving every species plenty of room to roam and run. The topography is varied, featuring wetlands, grasslands and forests. It’s especially a good place for bird watchers, as there are lots of neotropical song birds, native species and wintering waterfowl. While you may have to drive outside the downtown for this one, nature lovers will find it well worth the effort.

Great sight seeing near the property for some beautiful birds and you may see some bald eagles.

Within close proximity, this is a nice, leisure drive (or hike) around the wildlife refuge. Especially good for bird lovers--many species of birds to view.

Its the major migratory flightway for many spcies of birds. This is also the location of the Chinook Plank House and many walking trails and lookouts.
