This is a hidden gem; there is a drive that is blocked off by a gate. Park in the grass not blocking the gate, and walk around it to take the path up the mountain. It leads you to the fire tower and 360 degree views. The tower can be a little shaky in the wind, but it is sturdy enough to climb. The…

“Skinny Dip Falls. Take Hwy 276 to the Blue Ridge Parkway and head south. Pull off near mile marker 417, which is near the Looking Glass Rock overlook. A moderate, short hike will take you to a natural waterfall and swimming hole on the Yellowstone Prong of the Big East Fork of the Pigeon River. Take a cool dip or sun yourself on the rocks. If you continue on the trail past Skinny Dip Falls on the Mountains to Sea trail you will reach Graveyard Fields where you will find more hiking trails and waterfalls.”

“Located in the Pisgah National Forest just north of Brevard. 7.6 miles from the junction of US Highways 64 and 276, is Sliding Rock, one place where you’re invited to take the plunge down a 50-foot slippery cascade into the 50-60 degree, 7-foot deep pool. There are 2 observation platforms, and lifeguards on duty during the season. This is a heavily used recreation area, so it’s suggested you come early. It’s suggested, too, that you wear old shorts and old sneakers if you choose to take the plunge. Nominal admission charge for sliders but no cost to watch. Lifeguards on duty in season.”

“Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 422.8 Devil’s Courthouse, on the Blue Ridge Parkway, presides over some of the most spectacular views in the Blue Ridge Mountains. From the top of Devil’s Courthouse at 5,720 feet, visitors can see into South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee in a 360-degree panorama. Devil’s Courthouse may have received its name because of the sinister aspect of the rock formation, or because, as legend holds, the devil held court in the cave that lies beneath the rock. In Cherokee lore, this cave is the private dancing chamber and dwelling place of the slant-eyed giant, Judaculla. Devil’s Courthouse provides habitat for a variety of rare, high-altitude plants. Some of these alpine species may be remnants from the last glacial period. Hawks, ravens, vultures, eagles, and peregrine falcons ride the hot air currents that rise from the valley.”
