Really enjoyed this museum that told the fascinating history of Livorno, which helped contextualise a lot of the sights of the city. Great contemporary art space as well, so you can enjoy everything from Neolithic finds to award winning art of the modern day.

“In summer familes in Livorno move to the bathhouses. They rent a cabin and a parasol and they stay all day near the sea. They go to work and have lunch under the parasol, go back to work and have a shower and dinner in the bath house. It's worth visiting for the huge swimming pool (you need a bath cap to get into the water) and to enjoy a typical Italian atmosphere. The only shortcoming is that the entrance fee is 6 euros and you have to pay for a parasol or a chair, but you can stay for free in the swimming pool until 6 pm.”
