Just on the outskirts of Edinburgh you can visit the beach! An area that was popular during Queen Victoria’s reign, Portobello is seeing a resurgence in popularity with lots of new cafes, pubs, restaurants opening up, some of which taking in the views of the sea. We recommend brunch at The Beach House on the Esplanade (57 Bath Street, Edinburgh, EH15 1HE). There’s also a bagel place on the high street called Bross Bagels (186 Portobello High Street, Edinburgh, EH15 1EX)

Just a few miles from Edinburgh city centre, is a charming seaside suburb, with two miles of sand making it perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Mind you the water will be cold :) You can the bus no 49 and take about 30 minutes.

Quite far to go there by public transport. Nice if you have seen everything else and it is too hot in the city.

A twenty minute bus ride from the top of the street will take you to Edinburgh's seaside. A sandy beach and bustling promenade with cafes, restaurants and take aways awaits you. Portobello High Street also offers many lovely shops and there are many charity shops for those of you who like to look for a bargain!
