In Bishop Our favorite restaurant in Bishop is Yamatani Japanese. Some of our favorites things to order are: Starfish, which is 5 raw salmon rolls with crab mixture and avocado inside and tobiko on top. We order it with “all the colors of tobiko.” All of their sashimi is outstanding but do not miss a sashimi appetizer of all hamachi (yellowtail) For rolls, I like the rattlesnake which is a rice cut roll with scallops on the inside, eel on the outside. Additionally there are 2 “Rick” rolls that you should ask about. For casual food, Schat’s roadhouse is good. Usually good hamburgers and occasionally outstanding ribs. Holy smoke is Texas style barbecue, brisket is great, chicken and ribs are dry. Surprisingly good, but noisy and crowded (so popular) is the restaurant at the Bowling Alley. Their chef is actually the real deal, so the food is well prepared. Don’t be in a hurry, though, as the popularity makes the service sometimes, slow. Good Earth Yogurt and Wine shop on Main Street is cute and fun, generally good wines by the glass. The Looney Bean has exquisite pastries, but the coffee is generally not to our taste - a bit under roasted. World famous Schat’s bakery has sublime breads, pastries, gelato, hand made sandwiches. Very popular! In Mammoth: The restaurant (the Mammoth Rock Brasserie) is over the bowling alley called “Rock ’N' Bowl” is outstanding. Their chef is French and the food is first class. Although nothing in Mammoth requires dressing up, this restaurant has white tablecloths and napkins. Expensive, but worth it. Skadi’s in Mammoth is great but usually booked out. Truly gourmet, and worth booking in advance. Blue restaurant is good, presentation different. Two places: one is Pantry and marketplace, Taste of Blue is the restaurant. In the Mammoth Village: The Old New York Deli is great deli food, with “real” bagels, not those donut-like fakes. If you are at all interested in spirits, our friends are partner owners in Shelter Distilling in the village. Great mixology and very good small plates. Fun place. Toomey’s is a regional favorite with lobster taquitos, elk medallions, spectacular cesar salad with salmon, steak or chicken. Reservations probably most everywhere in Mammoth.

Best sushi you've ever had. Rob & Rox have been in this area since 1980. You don't succeed without having a bomb product that many years. My fav!
