This impeccable location is a half-hour drive away, but it's certainly worth it if you're exploring the sights of Naples. For more of an off-the-beaten-path experience, head to Barefoot Beach Preserve County Park, an undeveloped barrier island. It's a natural upland that's home to native gopher tortoises, named such because they create burrows from 3 to 52 feet long and 9 to 23 feet deep for protection.

$8 park all day. Beautiful beach. Great for walking in the surf.

My favorite Sunday morning activity: go to Barefoot Beach early. You can walk the beach 2 ways . First way: Go on Bare Beach Blvd all the way to the end to the State Park. It opens at 8am, and admission is $8. Park the car and walk the beach north towards Doc's Beach House and have breakfast, then walk back and find a place close to the car, get a towel and enjoy a peaceful morning. Normally I get out when the crowds arrive by 10:30. If you do it during the week, it's much less crowded. Also enjoy Barefoot Beach Blvd, with its beautiful winter mansions worth several millions. You cannot trespass but you can look from the car. Second way is to park at Bonita Beach Park, pay $2 / hour, and walk south towards Bare Foot Beach. Same beach as Bonita, just a different name and different county.

Our favorite local beach! You can experience trails and a walk on the beach all the way to Wiggins Pass. It's a mile with no buildings. Also, you will probably spot Gopher Tortoises driving in.
