This is a unique place that looks like an old speakeasy with a detective theme. There is no sign outside the door, so it may be difficult to find, but that's part of the fun. Don't expect too much of the food, keep in mind that you are there for the unique experience and the cocktails!;)

Evans and Peel Detective Agency. This Earl's Court dive masquerades as a detective agency online. In order to make a reservation, you must submit a 'case', which the 'detective' (or doorman) will question you about on arrival. The true excitement is being led through a secret bookcase and into the candlelit 1920s style bar; the drinks are spectacular.

The speakeasy trend reaches its apogee/nadir, depending on your taste, with this new basement bar accessed off Earl’s Court Road. ‘At all times do not draw unwanted attention to our venue,’ beseeches the menu. Oh, sorry. It makes a big noise about being secretive – I evaded an intercom interrogation by sneaking in behind a group of fellow drinkers. A dapper chap behind a desk then kept the schtick going: ‘Under what name did you book your appointment?’ And, ‘Can you tell me something about your case?’ How far you take the pantomime is up to you; once inside, Evans & Peel becomes a normal bar – a normal bar for 2012, that is, with bare brick walls, white butcher’s tiles and filament bulbs.
