Located about an hour and a half south and west in the San Isabel National Forest, this 3-story castle with a fire breathing dragon has been built by Jim Bishop. Really cool place with a very quirky owner.

This is a must see! Mr. Bishop built the entire castle by himself and it is amazing! It is free, however donations are requested. About 1 1/2 hours from here. Definitely worth the drive.

Worth the trip if you can afford the time for a day trip. Crazy it was built by 1 guy. Just a bit more than a 2 hour drive. Combine with a trip to the Royal Gorge. Warning! The guy didn't get a building permit.

Take a drive to the castle. On the weekend the dragon spits out fire. The drive there is beautiful.

“Two large recreational lakes with a 2.6 mile sidewalk around the largest. Hiking trails in the surrounding foot hills for an awesome view of the park and Spanish Peaks. Also a 9 hole golf course available.”
