“The ancient theater of Gythio is located in the northern part of the modern settlement of Gythio and dates back to Roman times (2nd century A.C). In 1891 the monument was excavated by Andrea Skia.The theater was made of domestic whitish marble. According to the Skia, the hollow included 12 rows of seats, without frieze and 5 vertical corridors.The stage of the theater was 12 meters long and 5 meters wide. Behind of the scene on a higher level, there were 7 small, almost square blocks, accessible by two stairs and forming a Stoa. The first row of seats was destined for the official people, known as the presidency, had special brackets for the back.”
