Superb French-inspired cuisine aside, this restaurant is home to two stellar bars that are the epitome of class and sophistication. The dapper bartenders know their stuff, and classic cocktails rule, but exceptions include their house trademark Pastis Fizz: an aniseed-toned number with cognac, cream, honey, citrus, whites, and soda. You can’t book a seat at either bar, so arrive early in the evening, before 6 pm, to ensure a seat or booth. They’re particularly packed on Thursdays, when there’s live jazz on the stage in the restaurant.
Great place to get dinner and a drink in the city. It is on the more pricey side of the spectrum, however the quality of the menu will justify itself.
“Centred around a wood fired oven, Fred’s serves simple, seasonally-driven food. The basics done brilliantly.”
“A friendly neighbourhood spot in the heart of the CBD, Papa Gede’s specialises in serving up voodoo- and rum-inspired drinks and has more absinthe than your average bar. They’ll probably know most people who walk through the door in a day, which is quite unique for a CBD spot. They also have comedy shows once a month, which are quite fun. They have a board of drinks, mostly classic cocktails, that you must ‘try before you die’. You’d have to be a regular, but I insist on getting through all of them. I’d start with the mai tai. The owners have a rich history in rum-based bars, so they make one of the best mai tais around.”
“For that special occasion you can't beat this place. Beautiful outlook and amazing food! Just at the bottom of the hill, they pick you up by boat.”
