This is the best and safest place for free sledding and only about an hour drive. There are gentle slopes, good for kids, and restrooms. No concessions, so bring food and water. There is a free parking lot, but in case you end up parking on the road, you'll need a one day Adventure Pass to display on your vehicle. They're sold at local convenience stores, but often run out. Ask me about finding one. there

The center is small but there are some amazing animals here. Just behind the visitors center is a perfect place for a picnic in nice weather. Pacific Crest Trail borders here also. Great spot to launch a day hike along the famous PCT.
