Inside the West Building, you can discover thousands of essential works, organized by period and national origin and arranged in spectacular and comprehensive galleries across two floors of exhibition space.

Ice skating surrounded by fun and funky sculptures. The National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden’s ice rink is a wonderful winter experience in Washington, DC. It opens up in mid-November and lasts until mid-March, and it’s a scenic atmosphere on the outskirts of the National Mall. It’s a small rink with wonderful ambience and a café to get hot cocoa overlooking it. Tickets sold in two-hour sessions beginning on the hour. If you aren’t prepared to begin skating at the top of the hour, you could end up waiting a while. This is especially true during crowded weekends. The sculpture garden is free for all to walk around and explore. During the warmer months, there is a large fountain in the middle to sit around and relax. If you're visiting during the winter season, there is a popular iceskating rink with skate rentals.
