While not the best maintained place, with several galleries closed for renovation, the Bronze Gallery contains some truly stunning sculptures. The museum also has a large numismatic and Roman antiquities collection and the National Art Gallery may merit a visit. What few people know (and perhaps fewer may care for) is that there is a massive bat colony, home to some 3 species of bat, that roost just behind the museum... Take a peek at the clouds of flying fox hanging off the trees!

This Egmore is a must see for those interested in Tamil history and culture. Rare bones, ancient Tamil script examples, and an impressive bronze cast collection are on display, among other things.
