Memorial Union Terrace
Built in 1926 to provide a "living room for the campus," the Memorial Union was predominantly funded by private donations. The year following its October 5, 1928 opening, it was the busiest college union in the country. It still thrives today as the social and leisure center of campus.
Home to the Rathskellar, it's the only union at a public university in the U.S. to serve alcohol. In summer on the massive patio overlooking the lake, find free films, concerts and other events.
Memorial union, located directly on Lake Mendota. Live music, great sunsets, famous terrace chairs and outdoor seating. Beer, burgers, corn and brats served outside, many more food choices and ice cream inside.
There are tons of eating out options, both inside and outside the Union. Enjoy a brat and a beer (or ice cream) while sitting outside on the terrace overlooking Lake Mendota. Check the Union website for events - there is usually live music on weekend nights!
Enjoy the view with a beer or some Babcock ice cream from the student union! Overlooks Lake Mendota.
Who wouldn’t want to sip a beer, enjoy a brat or burger and enjoy the gorgeous view of the lakes. The best ice cream in Madison, Babcock Hall ice cream is also a must. Boat rentals available as well. Bring your sun screen and bug spray.
Beautiful views, live music, food & local ice cream. We enjoy going here as a date or taking our family to get out for fresh air. Sunsets are breath-taking. Parking ramp near so you don't have to park randomly & forget where you are.
Excellent hang out spot. Enjoy the view of the lake or a concert or cheap local beer. This is the heart of Madison on a warm summer day. Get a table. The stay will be long and enjoyable.
Great view of lake mendota. Beautiful terrace to relax on, with live music most summer nights.
The student union is not just for students. They have a variety of food options. They have live music on the weekends, free movies on Monday night on the lake. It offers a great view of Lake Mendota. It's a go to must to get a badger vibe.
The Memorial Union is a Madison icon. Sit out by the lake, have a drink, enjoy the views. The Union pulls people by the hundreds on a nice summer weekend.
“Eat at The Great Dane, Cafe Hollander or Bar Taco & play bags in the courtyard outside the Apple Store. Nice outdoor mall with cute cafes, cupcake shop, and movie theater. Seasonal farmers’ market.”
“They have a little splash pad during the summer, parks for the kids, a disc golf course, a great sledding hill in winter, plus a basketball court.”
“Need a nearby late night burger? these guys have been featured on the travel channel. The local watering hole.”
“There's also a Monroe St. Location. The food and service is typically good there. There's also a nook in the Capitol location that offers probably the best stellar night of any Madison restaurant or bar of the Capitol but you have to search to find it (hint its on the second floor). ”
