The Ueno Royal Museum was opened in April 1972, when the facilities of the Japan Art Association Museum were completely remodeled. There are no permanent exhibitions, but various planned exhibitions are held introducing different genres of art including retrospectives of Japanese and foreign artists, as well as exhibitions by art and calligraphy groups.
