The picturesque black sand beach was famously featured in Jane Campion's The Piano.
Bring shoes - the sand get very hot and its a walk to the water. Swimmers are advised to only swim between the flags. We only recommend swimming here if you are a confidant swimmer. Be sure to look out for a map to Karekare waterfall, known by the Kawerau people as ‘Te Ahoaho' or ‘pendulous white thread', is nestled a short walk from the main beach arrival area.

This is a beautiful spot in the city, definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Filled with beautiful, interesting plants and flowers; great for a wander and perfect for taking photos. It's not very big though, so you don't need much time to see it all.
