This free museum is located just 5 minutes walking from my apartment. It shows roman architecture and artifacts, quite beautiful! Also because it's partially in the ground it's always nice and cool inside, even in summer :) It's closed on Mondays and during mid-day break.

The famous Roman theater is located just a few minutes away from the harbor and is well worth a visit. It's small but beautiful. You can actually see most of it walking around it for free (sshht...a big secret :D).

Parks & Nature
The beautiful little fishing village of Algameca Chica has not changed much since the 19th century. It's a traditional settling, without running water or even electricity (Although they have solar panels for example). The surrounding area is quite stunning, especially if you continue towards the sea left or right of the village (There are hiking trails).

El Portus is one of the closest beaches. It's has a nudist beach and a regular beach, excellent waters and generally a mostly spanish audience. There is a small bar ('chiringuito') that in summer is open most of the time, but be sure to take some food & water with you. On the way to the beach there are some restaurants right next to the road, but mostly it's a pretty empty area with a canyon and mountains. It's roughly a 13 minute drive from here.

El Portus is one of the closest beaches. It's has a nudist beach and a regular beach, excellent waters and generally a mostly spanish audience. There is a small bar ('chiringuito') that in summer is open most of the time, but be sure to take some food & water with you. On the way to the beach there are some restaurants right next to the road, but mostly it's a pretty empty area with a canyon and mountains. It's roughly a 13 minute drive from here.
Cala Cortina is Cartagena's official 'city beach'. It's actually quite beautiful considering how close it is, but can be very crowded in summer. It can be reached by bus starting in June, or by foot/car (walking : 30 minutes from the bus station, only recommended if you can stand the heat and like a walk). There is a restaurant that is open most of the time, so getting some cold drinks or ice cream is not a problem. The water is generally not as clear as other places further from Cartagena, but it's still pretty tropical !

Wild Sea Resaturant
Cala Cortina is Cartagena's official 'city beach'. It's actually quite beautiful considering how close it is, but can be very crowded in summer. It can be reached by bus starting in June, or by foot/car (walking : 30 minutes from the bus station, only recommended if you can stand the heat and like a walk). There is a restaurant that is open most of the time, so getting some cold drinks or ice cream is not a problem. The water is generally not as clear as other places further from Cartagena, but it's still pretty tropical !
This park (The largest of Cartagena) is just 5 minutes from the appartment. Despite being the largest, it's not so special - mostly suitable for a bit of walking or sitting in the sun. There is an other park a bit further away that is much more lush and green!

This park (our favorite!) is just 9 minutes walking from the appartment. It's very green, lush and mostly quiet. The large trees provide ample shade, and it's perfect for a picnic, some badminton/frisbee or just to relax and take an afternoon nap. Highly recommended if you want a break but don't want to head out for long!
Parque Vallejo Alberola
This park (our favorite!) is just 9 minutes walking from the appartment. It's very green, lush and mostly quiet. The large trees provide ample shade, and it's perfect for a picnic, some badminton/frisbee or just to relax and take an afternoon nap. Highly recommended if you want a break but don't want to head out for long!
Essentials
The Mercadona is just 5 minutes away from my home and offers the basic foods for hungry guests. They are especially well stocked in gluten free products and offer a wide range of food from fresh fish/meats to all the usual Spanish delicacies, excellent cheap wines and more.

Highly recommended tapas-place, best of Cartagena according to many! Just €1,80 for a drink (Beer/wine etc) + choice of excellent tapa. A few beers and you'll be full !
